Emission-free festival in the countryside
For years, Oerrock has proven that a large festival can run entirely emission-free. This year was no exception. Thanks to the collaboration between Stichting Oerrock, Verno Materieelverhuur, Haarhuis Generatoren, and Greener Power Solutions, the festival was powered entirely by solar energy. Without compromising on reliability.
A solar park and six batteries
Right next to the festival site sits a 3 MW solar park. That’s more than enough to power a festival. Together with our partners, we connected the solar park via the low-voltage distributor and two energy meters to five of our batteries in a grid boost setup.
- The solar park delivered up to 2.5 MW of energy at peak times
- The batteries stored the energy and supplied stable power to the festival, even after sundown
- Surplus energy was fed back into the grid
The five connected batteries operated as one powerful system. If one were to go offline, the others would automatically take over. Not only does this setup ensure a stable power supply, it’s also infinitely scalable. For extra security, a sixth battery was positioned among the four stages, ensuring the show could go on even in case of emergency.

Lessons for other sectors
This approach is not only suited to festivals. Anywhere temporary power is needed, a grid boost setup can deliver:
- Construction and infrastructure projects requiring large amounts of temporary power and energy
- Areas with transport restrictions, such as major cities with low-emission or zero-emission zones
- Locations where grid power may not be used during the day. Batteries can charge overnight and supply clean power during the day
The parallel setup can easily scale with demand. From a single construction crane to a full charging hub for electric trucks.
Making it possible together
A project like this only succeeds through collaboration. Stichting Oerrock, for enabling innovation. Verno Materieelverhuur, for supplying our batteries. Haarhuis Generatoren, for providing additional equipment. Together, we demonstrated what’s possible with smart, emission-free energy.
