Temporary EV Charging Solutions for Racing Event at the Paul Ricard Circuit

The famous Paul Ricard racing circuit in France recently hosted an exciting event with a unique twist. A well-known car brand organised a racing challenge, but instead of professional drivers, the participants behind the wheel were salespeople from various branches of the brand’s dealership network. The objective? To drive 400 km on the circuit on a single charge. This is something the car is certainly capable of; it just needs to be sufficiently charged. 

GCK Energy, leader in low-carbon mobility in France, was brought in to deliver the charging solution for the fleet of electric cars during the six-day event. While their high-speed chargers were more than up to the task, the on-site 63A grid connections weren’t powerful enough to consistently charge multiple electric vehicles. That’s where Greener came in.

Sustainable Charging on Limited Grid Connections 

Greener supplied four 422 kWh batteries to the project site. Charging multiple electric vehicles at the same time requires substantial power. By connecting each battery to a separate 63A grid connection, we significantly increased the available power through peak shaving. This setup lets the batteries charge slowly from the grid and then discharge the stored power when demand is high. 

Each battery was connected to two high-speed chargers, allowing them to fast-charge multiple electric vehicles at the same time. 

Thanks to this setup, GCK Energy was able to save 4456 litres of diesel, 15 tonnes of CO2 and 300 generator running hours during the six-day event. 

By joining forces, GCK Energy and Greener delivered a clean, efficient, and cost-effective power solution, despite the limited grid capacity on-site. This allowed the car brand to show off their innovative electric cars and their 400km range, worry-free.
