Alicky Wibaut has spent over two decades building commercial operations for companies at the frontier of energy and technology, from Aggreko to GKN to HyKit. He joins Greener Power Solutions as Country Director for the UK & Ireland, arriving at a moment when the British market for mobile battery storage is shifting fast. We sat down with him to find out what drew him to Greener and what he’s planning to do next.
How do you feel about joining Greener at this point in the scale-up?
Hugely excited. The growth of this business in the UK has been phenomenal. When you see a company scale that quickly, it tells you something real about the quality of the team behind it. My job now is to help push that further, to keep building while keeping the Greener spirit that makes this company so special. The UK and Ireland market is ready for more. The question is how we deliver it well.
Where do you see the biggest untapped opportunity for Greener in the UK right now?
Major infrastructure projects and the roll out of significant transport, energy and construction programmes.. These are long-term, high-value opportunities and that’s where I want to focus, whilst building further on our existing long-term customer relationships at the same time. Beyond that, electrification of transport infrastructure is moving fast. Bus depot conversions, major logistics operations moving to electrification, ports. These aren’t just battery opportunities. They’re transformation projects, and that’s where Greener can add real value by helping customers see possibilities they hadn’t considered.
I’ll be honest though. I need to learn first. I have ideas, but I want to shape the strategy together with the team to make sure we get it right for our customers.
What made you say yes to this role?
A few things. I loved my time at Aggreko. The rehire model, the community, the spirit of the people involved. Greener has that same energy and passion with a technology that commercially makes sense to our customers, and helps decarbonise industries rather than just power them. That matters to me.
I was also lucky enough to meet the team during the hiring process. Great people with huge commitment and enthusiasm. It felt like somewhere I really wanted to be a part of. The question isn’t just where a company is today, it’s where it’s going. With Greener, that feels really exciting.
What does it take to win a customer who’s never used a battery before?
It starts with clarity. Most customers who haven’t used a battery before aren’t saying no, they just don’t have a clear picture of what it means for them. What does it cost? What do they save? What problem does it solve?
The interesting part is that sometimes you’re not just solving a problem they know about. You’re helping them see an opportunity they hadn’t spotted. That’s where exciting conversations can happen.
What does success look like for you in the first 12 months?
First, earning the team’s trust. I can’t deliver anything without that. Then, building a growth plan for next year that’s ambitious and aligned to the Group’s strategy. Followed by demonstrating that growth in a way that doesn’t put the business or our customers at risk. The market is there. The opportunity is real. The challenge is keeping pace with demand while maintaining the quality of service Greener is known for.
What gets you out of bed for this kind of work?
The challenge. I don’t want a role I’ve done before. I want to be stretched. At Greener, I get to learn a new technology, work with a great team and great customers, and help open new markets for a business that’s genuinely doing something useful. That’s a good combination.
