AMSTERDAM, April 4th, 2023 - Greener Power Solutions (Greener), European leader in clean and smart solutions for the temporary energy market, is expanding to the United Kingdom. The Dutch scale-up will collaborate with rental partners to replace their diesel generators with batteries and will also focus on emerging markets such as the EV charging market and the energy grid. Greener will start in the United Kingdom with a capacity of approximately 6 MWh of mobile battery capacity. It aims to scale up to 20 MWh by the end of this year and to achieve a capacity of 60 MWh by 2025.
Greener was founded in Amsterdam in 2018 and offers sustainable mobile energy solutions by renting out mobile batteries and high-quality control software. Founders Dieter Castelein (CEO) and Klaas Akkerman (COO) believe that temporary energy supplies can play an important role in the crucial transition from fossil fuels to sustainable energy.
The company’s self-developed Energy Management System (EMS) software that controls the batteries also helps customers manage their energy consumption in a smarter and more efficient way. To further reduce its impact on the environment, the company combines its batteries with other clean energy sources, such as mobile solar power and hydrogen.
Distinctive proposition for the British market
“No other supplier in the United Kingdom has a rental fleet of batteries with a power of more than 100 kVA,” explains Dieter Castelein, CEO of Greener, the distinctive proposition for the British market. “Greener will be the first to offer these services on a large scale. In the market, the demand for smaller hybrid units has already been proven, and it seems the time has come to work with larger battery systems,” says Castelein.
To achieve its ambitious growth targets and scale up from a capacity of 20MWh in 2023 to 60MWh by the end of 2025, Greener is focusing on emerging markets such as the EV charging market and the energy grid. The Greener UK team will operate from the office in Bristol.
The company’s total fleet now consists of about 100 batteries with a total capacity of 42MWh, which are active throughout Europe. The goal is to double this capacity by the end of 2023. By replacing polluting diesel generators with its batteries, Greener has saved nearly 4 million liters of diesel and 12 million kg of CO2 emissions since its inception.
Investment of 45 million euros and new headquarters
Late last year, Greener raised 45 million euros in financing from investment firm DIF Capital Partners. Greener plans to use this investment to further strengthen its market leadership in the Netherlands and accelerate growth in Europe. In addition, part of the raised financing will be invested in research and development to enable new services and innovations. Significant expansion of the fleet of mobile batteries is also planned.
New headquarters in Amsterdam
The planned scale-up also involves further professionalization and expansion of the team, which has already grown significantly in recent years and now consists of 46 employees. Due to this rapid growth, Greener moved to a new headquarters earlier this month, located at Joop Geesinkweg 901, at the Amstel Business Park in Amsterdam.
