9,100 m² office building built sustainably

More and more contractors are embracing sustainability in construction, leading to a growing demand for sustainable materials and building methods. Greener is here to help you take those steps toward sustainability.

Dura Vermeer, Fundex, and Greener have joined forces for the sustainable NEXUS project at the Bio Science Park. This new 9,100 square meter building will house various laboratories and office spaces for start-ups and scale-ups, as well as an large-scale parking garage.

But it all starts with the foundation. The project is located within 3 km of a Natura 2000 area. In order not to disturb the nature and wildlife that call that area home, special care must be taken when drilling the foundation regarding noise pollution, raw materials, bad smells, and vibrations.

Electric foundation drilling

Fortunately, there’s always a sustainable option. Fundex is using a powerful electric drill rig to create the foundation. It requires a power capacity of 1200-1500 kWh per day, equivalent to the daily electricity consumption of about 150 households. That’s a big drill. So big, in fact, we need three Greener batteries, each with a capacity of 422 kWh, to supply it with enough power.

Here’s how it worked: one battery is charged via the grid connection. The stored power is then transferred to a second battery, which is driven to the drill rig. This second battery discharges its energy into a third battery, which is directly connected to the drill. By continuously transporting energy charged through the grid to the drill, the battery is able to remain sufficiently charged at all times, even with a daily consumption of 1500 kWh.

This unique setup takes full advantage of the mobile aspect of our batteries. Since you can place them anywhere and combine multiple batteries, you can power even the heaviest loads with ease, with no fear of power outages. Previously, we powered a 235-tonne drill using 12 Greener batteries working in tandem. We also helped a drilling project in the city centre proceed sustainably and without noise pollution.

Together with Dura Vermeer and Fundex, we’ve found a suitable, sustainable solution. No emissions, no noise from a diesel generator, and no harm to the surrounding nature.
